Science Lab

Spring 2021
Our Science Instructor, Mrs. Lee, continuing to show our Coyotes
how fun science can be and how we can learn Science anywhere!

6th Grade Science
Learning about surface tension, carbon dioxide, and center of gravity!
Observing and comparing new "elements"  kernelite and popcornium in different stages of decay. The popcorn model represented radioisotopic dating.

Observations on the penny, steel wool, skittles, etc. to determine if the models represent mechanical or chemical weathering.
6th graders are learning about and observing the Water Cycles Lab.

What are students learning for:

Winter 2020

T/K and K: Push & Pull
1st: Shadows & Light
2nd: Materials & Matter
3rd: Weather
4th: Collisions & Energy Transfer
5th: Earth's Systems
6th: Role of Water in Earth's Systems

4th Grade - Energy
To kick off the winter session, 4th graders were given the chance to work with different types of catapults to predict how far an object could fly based on how they were made and the materials they were made of.
Kindergarten - Habitats
Kindergartners were given materials to help create habitats for little creatures. They were allowed to create structures and living quarters using many different types of textiles. Once they finished, they placed in their elf to check out its new living space.

2nd Grade - Towers
2nd graders had been learning about erosion during the Fall and had labs where they were able to create different structures to handle flooding. In this lab, the students were given materials to create towers. They realized that creating the towers was not as easy as they expected.
5th Grade - Mystery Escape Room
The 5th graders were given multiple science puzzles to try to solve to "escape."  The problems ranged from things they learned during the Fall to science riddles. There were some fun surprises in store for those that got far enough!

What are students learning for:

Fall 2019

T/K & K: Plant & Animal Needs
1st: Life Science & Plant Shapes
2nd: Land forms
3rd: Life Cycles of Survival
4th:Weathering, Erosion, Deposition/Animal Senses
5th: Matter
6th: Space

2nd Grade - Land forms
Fall 2019
In one lab, 2nd grade students created mountains and observed how the water flows from the peaks.
In another lab, students simulated how rocks erode and break down to become sand.
5th Grade - Matter
Fall 2019
Oak Hills 5th graders have been learning about matter and chemical reactions.
During the Great Goo Escape, they learned about the different reactions between multiple liquids!

4th Grade - Eye Anatomy
Fall 2019
4th grade students have been learning about the anatomy of eyes.
In a couple labs, students experimented with light and images.
They also learned how light affects pupils and how that's relevant to nocturnal animals.

Science Lab with Mrs. Lee

6th Grade - Hot Air Balloons
June 2019

The students learned about air density as they launched
tissue paper balloons they created during lab!
